Isabella Ducrot
Isabella Ducrot (born 1931, Naples, Italy) is an artist and writer based in Rome.
She began making art in her fifties, after many years of being drawn to fabrics and textiles. Her work is deeply informed by her personal collection of antique and often rare cloths from across Asia and Eastern Europe (Turkey, India, China, Tibet, etc.), which she treats not just as source material but as formal, expressive elements in and of themselves.
Ducrot’s oeuvre includes painting, collage, drawing, and work with mixed media—often combining pigments, ink, pastel, watercolour, and textile fragments. Repetition, pattern (especially the checkered cloth motif), colour, and texture are hallmarks of her style.
